Education as the Foundation

Nigeria has one of the highest numbers of out-of-school children in the world, with over 10 million children not attending primary or secondary school. The crisis is sharpest in Northern Nigeria, where poverty, insecurity, early marriage, and a shortage of qualified teachers combine to keep entire generations away from the classroom. Girls are disproportionately affected, deepening cycles of inequality that extend across health, income, and civic participation.

According to UNESCO, two-thirds of the world's 763 million illiterate adults are women. In Northern Nigeria, this gender gap is especially pronounced. District 9127 clubs recognise that investing in education, especially for girls and women, is the most powerful lever available for lasting community transformation. When a girl is educated, her children are healthier, her family is more prosperous, and her community is more resilient.
