Nigeria has remained free of wild poliovirus since 2020, but our work isn't done. Rotary District 9127 joins the global Rotary family every October 24 to raise awareness, funds, and advocate for complete polio eradication.
For decades, Nigeria was one of only three countries where wild poliovirus remained endemic. Through the dedication of Rotarians, health workers, traditional leaders, and countless volunteers, Nigeria achieved a historic milestone — certification as wild poliovirus-free.
However, circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) continues to pose challenges. We remain committed until all forms of polio are eradicated.
