The Water Crisis in Northern Nigeria
Many communities in Northern Nigeria walk hours to collect water from unsafe sources. Water-borne diseases including cholera, typhoid, and diarrhoea are among the leading causes of child deaths in the region. Millions of people lack access to a basic necessity that most of the world takes for granted, and the burden falls hardest on women and children who spend productive hours fetching water rather than in school or earning a living.
Rotary District 9127 works to change this through borehole drilling, sanitation construction, and hygiene education. Our clubs partner with communities, local governments, and global funding bodies to design and deliver WASH projects that are sustainable, community-owned, and built to last far beyond the initial investment.
