A Planet Under Pressure

Nigeria has one of the world's highest deforestation rates per capita. Forests that once anchored soil, regulated water cycles, and sustained biodiversity are being cleared at an alarming pace. In the North, desertification driven by climate change and land degradation is steadily swallowing farmland, pushing communities toward conflict over shrinking resources.

Rotary International formally adopted Supporting the Environment as its seventh area of focus in 2021, recognising that environmental sustainability underpins every other development goal. Today, Rotary environmental projects operate in over 80 countries worldwide. District 9127 translates that global commitment into direct, community-led action across 16 states and the FCT.
