The Challenge

Nigeria has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, at 512 deaths per 100,000 live births (WHO 2017). The vast majority of these deaths are preventable with skilled care, timely referrals, and access to essential health services. Child malnutrition compounds the crisis, stunting physical and cognitive development for millions of children and leaving them more vulnerable to disease.

Preventable diseases continue to claim the lives of children under five at an alarming rate. Measles, pneumonia, diarrhoea, and malaria remain leading killers despite affordable treatments and vaccines existing for all of them. The gap is not medical knowledge — it is access, community awareness, and the presence of trained health workers in the communities that need them most. District 9127 is closing that gap through targeted, sustained programmes that bring care directly into communities.
